*Math: we will begin working on position words such as the following: above, below, first, second, third, left, right, in the middle. We will also learn about size words (big, little, small). A quick game that you can play, "Guess the Object", involves giving clues to an item that you can see. For instance, "I see an object that is above the couch and below the picture". Your child will have fun guessing and giving their own clues. Continue to work on "left & right" as this can be a hard concept for some children to grasp.
*Reading: Our first theme is "Welcome to Kindergarten!" It emphasizes on reading familiar stories such as "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", "The Little Engine that Could", and other favorites. We will also be learning some nursery rhymes and will be focusing on a "letter review" where we will study one letter each day. Your child will be excited when we are working on the first letter in his/her name. We will sing a cheer for your child and be placing thier name on our word wall.
*Writing: we will be practicing writing our letter for each day during our "letter review". Please keep practicing writing at home. Your child should be able to write his/her first name. We will also be practicing writing last names. It is normal for some letter reversals during the begining of Kindergarten, but with practice, we want this to improve.
*Science: we will be learning about the five senses. The children will be reading and making short stories that involve them telling how they use their senses. We also sing a song that incorporates movement and pointing to the senses.
*Social Studies: we will be starting a unit called "Peacable Place". The children will learn about the importance of rules, being fair, being kind, and what it means to be a good friend and make good choices. They always enjoy this unit and sharing their ideas and stories!
