 March Information Minimize

*Math: we are continuing to work on joining groups of numbers to 10.  The children get to use workmats daily to incorporate the new skills.  We work on 2 numbers for 2 days, and they have enjoyed learning simple addition.

*Reading: March is reading month!  Remember to have your child do some type of reading nightly in order for them to continue improving their reading skills, plus they will earn prizes, medals, and a icy treat at the end of the month.  Yummy!

*Writing: the children are continuing to improve with their writing skills and using details.  We are focusing on writing one complete sentence and those who are ready are begining to write 2 complete sentences.

*Science: we are continuing to study animals.  So far we have learned about fish, snails, sow bugs, pill bugs, red worms, and night crawlers.  The kids enjoy the hands-on activities.  I hope to do a unit on chicks where we will incubate eggs in our room.

*Social Studies: our current word of the week is initiative.  We talked about doing nice things for other people without being asked.  The children were picking up trash in the room, helping other kids with their backpacks, etc.  I was very impressed by their "initiative"!
