Welcome to the Dundee High School Guidance & Counseling web page. The role of the Guidance Department is two-fold. The first role is to be the best provider of accurate information regarding graduation requirements, post-secondary planning, activities related to post-secondary planning and trends related to preparing students for their lives after high school graduation. The second role is to provide a safe, neutral and confidential place where students can come in to discuss immediate issues of concern to them. In some rare cases, the counselor may contact parents/guardians and will suggest  outside agencies to continue counseling services.

Why Go To College

  • Every bit of education you get after high school increases the chances you will earn good pay. Most college graduates earn more money during their working years than people who stop their education at high school.
  • The more education you get the more likely it is  you will always have a job. According to one estimate, by the year 2028, there will be 19 million more jobs for educated workers than there are qualified people to fill them.
  • Continuing education after high school is much more important for your generation than it was for your parent's generation. Today, most good jobs require more than a high school diploma. Businesses want to hire prople who know how to think and solve problems.

 Dual Enrollment Guide Minimize

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment means that a student is taking classes at a college while still in high school. To qualify, the State of Michigan says a student must have PLAN (Practice ACT Scores) of M-18, R-17, S-19, E-21 or ACT scores of M18, R-17, S-19, E-21. Your student needs to meet with the high school guidance counselor to complete an application to Monroe County Community College and together they will decide on the individual class to be taken and complete the dual enrollment form. Dual enrollment classes are paid for by the home school district. Books and fees are paid by the family. Registration in dual enrollment classes is determined by Monroe County Community College and their enrollment status. For more information, please contact the guidance office!

    
 DUNDEE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION PROGRAM Minimize

Dundee Community Schools Scholarship Program

There are currently fourty-three scholarships that are available to our high school graduating Seniors offered through the Dundee Community Schools Scholarship Foundation. This Foundation was established in 1999 by a small group of Board members, administrators and high school counselors. Since 1999 we have seen this program grow from it's "seed" scholarships into what we have today. Some of the original scholarships have expired, but the establishment of the Foundation Program has ensured that our  community members have an established vehicle through which they might work with the school to establish a scholarship. The current Director of the Dundee Community Scholarship Foundation is Michelle Sanford, Director of Guidance and Counseling. If you have questions regarding the scholarship program, please feel free to contact her at 734-529-7008 ext. 3016. Graduating Seniors are given a list of scholarships to which they can apply every February. Winners of the Dundee Local Scholarships are announced at Senior Awards Night. Many thanks are extended to all of the donors who have made these opportunities available for our students.

During "Scholarship Season" additional scholarship opportunities will be announced in this area. Please click on the name of the scholarship to access the application information.

New: 1/2010: Department of Michigan American Legion Aux Scholarships - Postmark Deadline March 15th. For daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sons, grandsons, great-grandsons of honourably discharged veterans.

Typically, the time-line for Senior year is:

August and beyond: search for scholarships using free searches like www.fastweb.com. You can use this search engine throughout your college career.

January: complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on line at: www.fafsa.ed.gov

February-March: complete Dundee High School Local Scholarships. Mrs. Sanford will host a Senior Class Meeting and will provide the Seniors with the packet of information they will need to complete applications for the local scholarships you see on this web page.

Where The Jobs Will Be

2010 - 2018

 

The following 20 occupations are expected to add the most positions between now and 2018 according to the US Department of Labor. Job growth in these fields accounts for almost 38 percent of all new jobs during this time span. Although there are opportunities in a variety of fields, 20% of the jobs on the list are in healthcare. Seven of the careers offer median annual earnings of at least $40,000 with the career of computer software engineer-applications paying the highest median salary of $85,000. 10th Graders PRACTICE the ACT 

Dundee High School requires that all 10th graders take the PRACTICE ACT test in the fall. This test is called the PLAN test. It is designed to give the 10th graders a look at the real ACT test and to help them "PLAN" for their lives after high school.
