Wood Technology A

Students learn:

Project designing and planning methods using scaled multi-view drawings

Material list uses and cost analysis

Workplace safety

Proper tool and machine usage

Pattern duplication methods

Rabbet and miter joinery through box construction

Wood Technology B

Students build on skills developed in Wood Technology A and are introduced to:

Case construction methods including rabbet and dado joinery

Leg and rail construction methods including dowel and mortise & tenon joinery

Wood Technology B is project oriented with the philosophy that student learning is best accomplished by doing

Building Construction

Students learn construction methods through real building trades experiences.

This year, students have been working on the completion of the Agri-science and Track Storage Buildings.  Jobs completed this year include:

Installed Light fixtures in the Agri-science Building

Completed electrical work in the Agri-Science Building

 

Currently, students are installing garage and passage doors in both buildings.

            Students completed a Masonry unit, laying 150 block

            Students completed a Bid Exercise for Storage Buildings

            Students are currently building a storage building for the Elementary Playground and a Chicken Coop for Mr. Karner

Advanced Woodworking

Students continue to improve woodworking skills through project based work that includes or may include:

Design and plan development

Cost estimation methods

A wide array of joinery possibilities

Pattern, jig, and fixture development

Working with a variety of wood based materials and finishes

Students math skills are increased through practical daily application including:

Design

Estimating

Cost analysis

Measuring

Layout

Tolerancing

Calculations including board foot, square foot & lineal foot

 

 

 Independent Woodworking

Students have the opportunity to become masters of their woodworking craft
