I have been a teacher at Dundee for nine years. Primarily, I have been a tenth grade English and government teacher, but I have taught a wide variety of subjects: psychology, sociology, economics, world history, world geography, etc. This year I have taken the challenge to teach 12th grade and am highly motivated to ensure that Dundee's students are prepared for they types of writing they will encounter on the college level. I love being involved with school activities and I do my best to try to make Dundee both an educational and fun place for the students to be.  In the past I have held positions as Student Council Advisor, Class Sponsor (7 years), and have been both a girls' and boys' basketball coach at the school.
I lived in Florida for most of my life, but I went to high school in Saline and graduated in 1994. After high school, I enlisted in the United States Navy. I served four years on the USS KEARSARGE, which was deployed to various conflicts in Bosnia in 1995 and performed rescue missions in Angola in 1997. Seeing different countries around the world and being able to travel all over the United States was a blessing and truly opened my eyes about how people live all over the world.
Once my enlistment was over in the Navy, I enrolled at Michigan State University (Go Spartans!!!). I took a heavy class load and ended up graduating in two years. I also had my brief career as a rock star by playing in a band, Curiously George, as a singer for two years – our band was good – I was, at best, average. I did my student teaching at Haslett Middle School and Leslie High School. Michigan State University really gave me a strong foundation of what a teacher should be and has really affected how I approach the classroom today.
I graduated in 2000 and my first teaching job was at Lakewood High School. It was a good experience with a great staff, but it was in the middle of nowhere. Bored out of my mind at times, I sought another job and that is when I was hired at Dundee. I enjoy being a Viking and working with students. I feel blessed to have a job that I enjoy waking up and going to work every day. I thank the students, the other teachers, administration, and the parents for being a big part of that.

English 12
This English class will focus on preparing students for the types of writing and literature they will encounter at the college level.  Students will improve their writing in the areas of content, organization, style, grammar, and mechanics so it will meet the expectations of college work.  Students will write for a variety of purposes and be expected to complete several formal college essays:  persuasive, narrative, definition, compare/contrast, and informative.  Students will also be required to read a variety of works and will be assessed on their comprehension of the material and ability to extract themes and other literary devices from the works.  The goal of English 12 is to develop critical readers who can apply various aspects of the novels and short stories to their lives.

Government
This government class will focus on contemporary issues facing our world today in a multitude of areas: crime, foreign affairs, human rights, environment, education, and health care. Students will actively participate in debates and discussions to help broaden their views on both sides of the political spectrum. The goal of this class is to inform students about the current issues so that they can become knowledgeable about the world around them and how they can affect the political process.

Psychology
Psychology is the study of the behavior and mental processes.  This class will largely focus on social psychology, which tries to decipher the reasons behind peoples' actions.  Areas of study in the class include personality development, consciousness, gender roles, dreams, love, learning, memory, and psychological disorders.
