I have been a teacher at Dundee for eight years. Primarily, I have been a tenth grade English and government teacher, but I have taught a wide variety of subjects: psychology, sociology, economics, world history, world geography, etc. I am also the Student Council advisor at the high school who is in charge of putting on events like Homecoming, Snowball, and the Spring Picnic, in addition to other fund raising events to help the community. I have previously been a class advisor for seven years and have coached both girl's and boy's basketball at Dundee. Currently, I am the girl's varsity basketball coach at Whiteford High School. I love being involved with school activities and I do my best to try to make Dundee both an educational and fun place for the students to be.
I lived in Florida for most of my life, but I went to high school in Saline and graduated in 1994. After high school, I enlisted in the United States Navy. I served four years on the USS KEARSARGE, which was deployed to various conflicts in Bosnia in 1995 and performed rescue missions in Angola in 1997. Seeing different countries around the world and being able to travel all over the United States was a blessing and truly opened my eyes about how people live all over the world.
Once my enlistment was over in the Navy, I enrolled at Michigan State University (Go Spartans!!!). I took a heavy class load and ended up graduating in two years. I also had my brief career as a rock star by playing in a band, Curiously George, as a singer for two years – our band was good – I was, at best, average. I did my student teaching at Haslett Middle School and Leslie High School. Michigan State University really gave me a strong foundation of what a teacher should be and has really affected how I approach the classroom today.
I graduated in 2000 and my first teaching job was at Lakewood High School. It was a good experience with a great staff, but it was in the middle of nowhere. Bored out of my mind at times, I sought another job and that is when I was hired at Dundee. I enjoy being a Viking and working with students. I feel blessed to have a job that I enjoy waking up to and going to work every day. I thank the students, the other teachers, administration, and the parents for being a big part of that.
