“Teaching is a commitment to instill knowledge in the minds and hearts of all students. It is so much more than just a job. It requires a love of humanity, a belief in the human spirit, a dedication to excellence, and a resolve to make a difference in the lives of others. It is the foundation upon which all forms of progress are based. Those who were destined to teach, spend their lifetimes investing in the dreams of their students, and in so doing, their own dream invariably comes true. To enlighten, to awaken, to inspire all of those whose lives they touch…this is their dream!” –Genie Graveline
Let me introduce myself first by recognizing my beautiful and supportive family. They encourage and enable me to be the passionate, fun-loving (and yes, sometimes crazy) person that I am. Who is this family you ask? Well... my husband (Brian) has made me the proud step-mom of: Austin (11), Colton (5), and Briley (4). There is also our -yet to be fully trained- dog, Jackson. Briley is my “mini-me” also known as my “tail.” I believe she was put on this earth solely for my happiness. My boys are darling, goofy, and keep me on my toes and my husband is mostly a peach (and also goofy). What can I say? I’m blessed (minus the dog).
My maiden name is Emily Rice. I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. Most of my family and friends live there or in the Bedford/Temperance area. I graduated from Whitmer High School studying college preparatory with honors in 2000, received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Toledo in the field of Education in 2005, and my Masters Degree from Concordia University in Educational Leadership in the area of Curriculum and Instruction in 2009. I am an intervention specialist/teacher here at the beautiful Dundee High School. I LOVE MY JOB, by the way. When you see me at school, you’ll notice the ever-present smile on my face. The students and staff here are wonderful and full of spirit. The people I work with are not simply colleagues, but friends. My students are my purpose and their success is my focus. I currently team-teach with two extremely fabulous and effective gentlemen: Mr. Bock and Mr. Simmons. My third trimester schedule is as follows:
1st hour: Team-teach with Mr. Bock/Earth Science
2nd hour: Team-teach with Mr. Simmons/American History B
3rd hour: Team-teach with Mr. Bock/Intro to Physics
4th hour: Planning Period
5th hour: Guided Academics
