Dundee High School

Department of Fine Arts

Welcome to Ms. Powers Classroom

"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.

So LOVE the people, who treat you right,

forget about the ones who don't,

and believe that everything happens for a reason.

If you get a chance, take it.

If it changes your life, let it.

Nobody said that it'd be easy, they just promised it would be worth it."

Dundee High School has a wonderful Fine Arts department. Students of all levels of artistic talents can develop and pursue their artistic abilities in an array of classes. Art I covers the basic areas of art through projects that involve drawing, painting, print-making, and creating clay forms. For students wishing to further their studies in Fine Arts, there are classes offered in each of the following categories: Advanced Painting, Beginning Drawing and Painting,  and Clay/Pottery. Each of these classes provides a focus on its category and offers multiple levels of curriculum to accommodate for advancing abilities. If a student has taken all levels of a class offered and still wishes to continue learning in that area of study, he/she may qualify for an independent study in which they can further develop their artistic talents on a personalized curriculum.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at Lpowers@dundee.k12.mi.us or 734-529-7008 ext. 3401.

Art has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I was an Art Minor at Alma College in Alma, Michigan, where I received my bachelor's degree in Communications. I have participated in a wide range of art classes, I just recently finished my Art Education Certification from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Art and children seem to go together; you can't have one without the other. Children remind us of our imagination, and show us the creativity that we sometimes seem to forget. I love sharing my passion and art skills with my students. I have always thought the most important thing in life is to let children express themselves and show their true talents through art, music, sports, or any other activity that they choose. Art is a path that allows children to express their feelings, or to examine their interests. Every student can excel at Art, which is what I love about this subject, one important lesson that I hope all of my students will understand is that no student can be overlooked or discriminated with their Art work. It is not about the talent that one possesses with a marker or crayon, it is the effort and concentration that is important in the Art work. I hope that parents and administrators will continue to think that Art needs to stay in the daily lives of our children, because every student should be given the opportunity to gain confidence and expand their vision through Art.
