Subject: Important Update Regarding School Calendar and Snow Days

Viking Nation,

I hope you are staying warm! Due to recent extreme weather, Dundee Community Schools has now exceeded the state-allotted "snow days" for the 2025-26 school year.

The Current Situation:

Michigan law allows 6 forgiven days per year, with the possibility of a 3-day waiver. Tuesday, January 27th, was our 11th cancellation. This means we currently need to make up 5 school days

I have submitted a request to the State for the additional 3-day waiver. If approved, we will still need to add 2 days to the end of the school year. Please note that:

  • Minutes don’t count: Adding time to existing days or converting half-days to full days does not satisfy state requirements; we must add full calendar days.

  • More winter is coming: With two months of winter remaining, this number may increase.

Impact on Families & Graduation:

  • Graduation Dates: Dates for Dundee Community High School and Riverside Academy will not change.

  • Travel Plans: If you have June travel plans that now conflict with the extended calendar, we ask that you attempt to reschedule. If that is not possible, please contact your child’s building administrator to make arrangements.

We will announce the official final day of school once we are safely through the winter months.

Thank you for your patience and understanding on the matter.
