First Day of School Rescheduled to Sept. 2

Dear Dundee Community Schools Families,

At Dundee Community Schools, the health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We appreciate your continued patience, understanding and support as we prepare for a safe and successful return to school.

We have received feedback from our school community asking us to be as thorough as possible in addressing possible mold or mildew in our elementary and middle schools. We have taken this feedback to heart and as a result will be expanding our testing and remediation efforts to include ALL areas that may be utilized or occupied by our staff and students.

As a result, we have decided to move our first day of school to Tuesday, September 2, to give the district time to thoroughly test and if necessary remediate all areas occupied by our students and staff and address any remaining concerns to help ensure a safe start to the school year. This situation calls on us to go above and beyond to help ensure our school environment is as safe as possible for everyone visiting or utilizing our facilities.

The previously scheduled open house day has been canceled. Each building will be prepared to welcome back and support our students on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 2. Building leaders will share specific details regarding the first day of school.

I’d also like to provide a brief update on our air quality testing and remediation efforts.

Following thorough air quality testing in our elementary and middle school classrooms, nine rooms were identified as needing remediation. The test results were received Friday evening and we immediately deployed Cousino Restoration crews to begin the recommended cleaning procedures. These included a complete wipe-down of all surfaces with antimicrobial solutions, followed by antimicrobial fogging of each affected room. HEPA air scrubbers ran throughout the weekend to ensure air quality is restored. In addition to the retesting of the nine classrooms, all second-floor classrooms and school hallways were also tested. The results are expected tomorrow.

We sincerely appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we work to ensure a safe, healthy environment for our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and we look forward to a great school year ahead.
