8.29.25 Community Update

Date: 8.29.25

At Dundee Community Schools, the health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our top priority. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we prepare for a safe start to the school year on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

I would like to provide an update on air quality testing and remediation efforts related to potential mold or mildew in our elementary and middle schools. As previously shared, all classrooms, hallways, common areas, and other spaces in both buildings have been treated and remediated, including areas where no issues were initially identified. This reflects our commitment to going above and beyond to ensure the safest possible environment for our students, staff, families, and visitors. Through expanded testing, one middle school storage room required remediation, which has since been completed.

Initial testing identified 10 classrooms needing remediation. Nine have since been cleared and confirmed safe. One middle school classroom, which operates on a separate, older HVAC system, continues to show elevated levels. Crews have cleaned the ductwork and taken additional remediation steps. Testing will continue until the classroom is fully cleared for occupancy. Students and staff assigned to this classroom will begin the year in an alternate location. Our remediation experts have confirmed that this situation poses no health or safety risk and that all middle school students and staff can safely return to school.

We appreciate your continued patience as we complete this critical work to provide a safe and healthy learning environment. At this time, we remain on schedule to begin the school year on Sept. 2, and I look forward to welcoming our students, staff, and families back into our hallways very soon.
