map of school drop-off route

Please read the following message from DCS Transportation Director Christi Rogers:

Dear Families,

We know mornings are busy, and everyone is trying to get where they need to be on time. However, we ask for your help in keeping our students and staff safe during morning drop-off.

Our buses need to safely exit the middle/high school area to return for the elementary morning run. Several times, vehicles dropping students off behind the middle school gym have nearly collided with buses while pulling out and that is why the exit gate is closed.

If you are dropping off a middle school student, please use the designated drop-off loop. Please do not drop off behind the middle school gym.  This loop was designed to help keep traffic moving safely for everyone.

Please follow these procedures:

  • Enter the drop-off loop and drop your student off at Door M (in the image below it is marked as 4).

  • Follow the loop back out onto Dunham Street.

  • Do not exit through the one-way entrance into the parking lot behind the gym. This creates a safety concern for our buses and other vehicles.

  • If possible, you can even wait until 7:10 a.m. to drop off your student at the canopy. By that time, the buses should have finished unloading, and you may also use that area. If a bus is running late, staff may be outside asking vehicles to move forward so buses can safely exit and continue their routes. We appreciate your patience and cooperation if this occurs.

We understand that morning routines can be hectic, and we appreciate everyone's help in keeping traffic flowing safely and ensuring our students arrive at school safely.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership!
